Cobbity resident Gale Collins bought a dilapidated house in Lightning Ridge ten years ago, it was handmade by a breast cancer survivor Joan Andrews. Joan was sixty at the time and built the house from sandstone and 14,000 bottles - the house is called "The Black Queen". Then at 85 Joan sold to Gale - another breast cancer survivor. The house was leaking and ridden with white ants. But it had a wonderful history. Gale and her husband Roger brought the house back to life and now run evening theatre through the house six months of the year. Gale's three act play takes visitors on Joan's journey - some say Joan (now deceased) speaks though Gale. The final act is about a magnificent lamp collection - some over 4,000 years old. This interview on c91.3 is about two women - Joan and Gale - both with incredible determination. Gale Collins is a zig in a sea of zags.
